Everything you thought you knew about Winnie the Pooh is about to change.
You are already pretty familiar with everyone’s favorite pooh bear, Winnie the Pooh. But, what if I told you that everything you thought about Winnie the Pooh was a big lie?
According to a new book, Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World’s Most Famous Bear, Winnie the Pooh is actually a girl.
Winnie the Pooh is based on a real-life black bear cub bought by a Canadian vet from a hunter in 1914. The veteran named the bear Winnie after be found in Winnipeg, Canada. He bought the brought the bear with him to England, where Winnie would serve as a mascot for his regiment.
The veteran eventually left the bear with the London Zoon, where a boy named Christopher Robin would often times visit the bear. The boy’s dad? A. A. Milne, the author of the Winnie-The-Pooh book series.
The original Pooh bear was actually a girl.
It was not until the animated cartoon character’s voice was done by a male British actor that the gender of Winnie the Pooh changed.
