Walmart and Tracy Morgan Settle Lawsuit Over Highway Car Crash

Date:

Walmart gives Tracy Morgan an offer he can’t refuse in the lawsuit over the highway accident that killed his friend and left the comedian disabled for months.

According to reports, Tracy Morgan and Walmart have reached a settlement in the lawsuit Morgan filed against the shopping mega-giantĀ over the New Jersey highway accident in June 2014 that killed one man and severely injured Morgan and two others.

Details of the settlement have not been disclosed but it rumors suggest it is between 50 to 100 million dollars.

ā€œWalmart did right by me and my family, and for my associates and their families,ā€ Morgan said in a statement. ā€œI am grateful that the case was resolved amicably.ā€

Greg Foran, Walmart U.S. president and CEO, said in a statement, ā€œOur thoughts continue to go out to everyone that was involved in the accident. While we know there is nothing that can change what happened, Walmart has been committed to doing whatā€™s right to help ensure the well-being of all of those who were impacted by the accident. We worked closely with Mr. Morelli, and we are pleased to have reached an amicable settlement that ends this litigation. We are deeply sorry that one of our trucks was involved.ā€

ā€œWalmart and I worked diligently to reach this settlement for the plaintiffs and their families,ā€ Morganā€™s lawyer Benedict Morelli added. ā€œWalmart took full responsibility for the accident, which we greatly appreciate.ā€ [Variety]

Tracy Morgan suffered broken ribs, a broken leg, a broken nose and possible brain damage. His lawyer said last year that he is “still fighting and trying to live his life.”

According to the lawsuit, the truck driver was awake for more than 24 consecutive hours which caused the driver to fall asleep at the wheel and stike the vehicle, which also resulted in a six-car accident.

Roper pleaded not guilty to criminal charges. Earlier this year, Walmart agreed to pay a $10 million settlement to the two children of McNair.
