Vin Diesel is heading back to the xXx franchise with a new xXx movie coming soon. Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for xXx 3.
Vin Diesel is the master of the reboot. Back in 2009 he returned to the role of Dom Toretto for Fast and Furious, the fourth movie in the now hit Furious franchise. He repeated it again in 2013’s Riddick and now Vin Diesel has confirmed he will reboot xXx.
According to reports, Vin Diesel is now working on a third xXx movie which will start shooting in December.
The original 2002 action film was directed by Rob Cohen and featured Vin Diesel as Xander Cage, a thrill seeking extreme sports enthusiast, stuntman and rebellious athlete turned spy for the NSA. xXx also features Asia Argento,Samuel L. Jackson, and Marton Csokas.
The movie received mixed reviews but it was a financial success in general for the movie studios. It made over $250 million worldwide.
It was so successful that it was followed by a 2005 sequel entitled xXx: State of Union. Vin Diesel and Rob Cohen, the lead actor and director of the original, had signed onto this film before xXx had opened, but both dropped out as Diesel had to work on The Pacifier while Cohen was busy making Stealth; Cohen, however, remained as an executive producer.
Two different scripts were made for the film, and the one written by Simon Kinberg was ultimately chosen. Ultimately, the series under-performed at the box office, and was criticized by critics for having bad actors, an illogical storyline and too much CGI.
So what should we expect? Well, for those of you who managed to go without seeing xXx, the movie franchise centers around an extreme sports star who’s recruited by the government to become a special agent. It was supposed to be a modern day version of James Bond, but the series wasn’t very successful. It may be do to the fact that Vin Diesel isn’t very entertaining alone. What made Fast and Furious franchise so successful was the team dynamic behind the series. If xXx 3 plans to bring the same storyline of a man who breathes Mountain Dew and sweats dynamite alone, expect movie theaters to react the same way they did in the past two xXx movies.
