According to reports, caterers on the set of Law & Order: SVU caused a bomb scare in lower Manhattan Thursday, which shut down traffic for blocks after their urn of hot apple cider was mistaken for an explosive device.
“It was only apple cider,” said caterer Luis Rodriguez told NY Daily News. “Somebody called the police because they thought it was a bomb … there was no real bomb. It was crazy they thought it.”
The catering crew was packing up for the day after filming for the NBC drama when they momentarily left the urn wrapped in cellophane on a branch near Worth and Centre Sts. outside Supreme Court about 11:45 a.m, police told reporters.
The wire used to plug the urn in was sticking out of the top.
Someone walking by reported the package outside the courthouse. Streets were closed off to traffic as the police investigated.
The NYPD bomb squad showed up and quickly deemed the urn harmless.
