Fox officially orders a pilot for the new Lethal Weapon TV series, which is based on the film franchise.
According to reports, Damon Wayans, Sr. will star in the potential TV series. Damon Wayans will play Roger Murtaugh, the role played by Danny Glover in the original 1987 movie.
Fox’s version of Lethal Weapon will focus on a Texas cop and former Navy Seal Martin Riggs (who has not been cast yet) who suffers the loss of his wife and baby and moves to Los Angeles to start a new life. There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh, who, having recently suffered a heart attack, must avoid stress in his life.
This is the latest TV adaptation of movies this pilot season, joining The Exorcist, Urban Cowboy, Cruel Intentions, Taken, Training Day and Nancy Drew.
Lethal Weapon TV series was in development this past October, landing at Fox after gaining attention from fans and network executives. The original Lethal Weapon series spawned a franchise with movies released in 1989, 1992 and 1998.
