Chris Rock’s Sketch on ‘SNL’ Called the Worst in Saturday Night Live History

Details surrounding what is being called the worst sketch in SNL history are finally being revealed. But, how bad was Leslie Jones and Chris Rock’s “The Couple” sketch from the most recent episode of SNL? It was so awkward and bad that Hulu re-edited the clip in hopes that no one would notice.

In a recent recap, Splitsider revealed what was happening behind the scenes and the reason why the sketch was so bad.

We’re being told that this sketch was actually written by writers Chris Rock brought in, not the normal SNL writing staff. Comedians bringing in outside writers has happened before (Jerry Seinfeld and Richard Pryor being examples), and it’s not something those writers rooms were crazy about. (Via)

Some people argue that the Jones intentionally sabotaged the sketch because she was on the writing staff. But, what most likely happened is that the sketch was just not very good. Both Jones and Chris Rock are talented comedians. But, it is clear that they are reading cue cards, so either their lines could have changed at the last second, or the sketch was just really, really bad.
