Tom Hardy quits working on the upcoming Suicide Squad.
Tom Hardy has quit working on the much anticipated DC comic film, Suicide Squad. According to reports, Tom Hardy was to have been part of the all star cast which includes Will Smith, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, and Margot Robbie.
Tom Hardy would have played Rick Flagg, the leader of the group that consisted of Batman villains Deadshot (Will Smith), Joker (Jared Leto), and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and Enchantress (Cara Delevinge).

According to reports, Tom Hardy quit the movie due to scheduling. The actor is currently working with Leonardo DiCaprio on the upcoming feature film The Revenant. THE REVENANT is an adaptation of the Michael Punke novel The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge, is the story of a 19th century fur trapper, Hugh Glass, who gets mauled by a grizzly bear. Near death, the terrain makes it impossible for his colleagues to carry him back to their fort. Casting directors held several open casting calls for speaking roles in the movie and production is set to begin later this month.

Tom Hardy just finished working on Mad Max: Fury Road for Warner Bros. Pictures and that movie is set to open on May 15th. Suicide Squad will start filming in mid-April in Toronto but Tom Hardy will have press commitments for Fury Road that will take him around the world.
According to TheWrap, Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to replace Tom Hardy.
Jake Gyllenhaal may not have received an Oscar nomination for “Nightcrawler” on Thursday but he could still end the day with a win, as David Ayer is courting his “End of Watch” star to replace Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg in “Suicide Squad,” multiple individuals familiar with the comic book project have told TheWrap.
Gyllenhaal has emerged as Ayer’s favorite to play “Suicide Squad” leader Rick Flagg, having previously worked with the director on “End of Watch,” which led to roles in WB’s well-received thriller “Prisoners” and the riveting “Nightcrawler” role that earned him a slew of critics awards on top of a Golden Globe nomination. He’s currently up for a SAG award for the same film.
Suicide Squad is the latest Warner Bros. movie that will focus on Gotham’s villains.

Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto are officially set to star in the upcoming feature film, Suicide Squad. Also cast in the movie are Jai Courtney and Cara Delevigne. Much of the castings have been reported previously, however the studio confirmed on Tuesday the official cast of Suicide Squad.
Will Smith will play Deadshot, who is best known as a Batman villain, while Tom Hardy plays the group’s leader, Rick Flagg. Jared Leto is expected to play Joker, while Margot Robbie will play the Joker’s on-again-off-again girlfriend, Harley Quinn.

David Ayers’ Suicide Squad will be shooting in Toronto. The big-budget action thriller, with a working title Bravo 14, has booked into Pinewood Toronto Studios for pre-production starting in February.
David Ayer will write the script and direct the movie as well. Charles Roven and Richard Suckle are producting alongside Zach Sndyer and Deborah Snyder, who have previously executive produced several DC movies.
Jesse Eisenberg was rumored to be featured in the movie, but it is not part of the cast. But, expect other actors to make cameos in this upcoming feature film.
“David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote Training Day and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites: Margot, Jared, Jai and Cara,” Silverman continued. “We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.” [via]

Update #1 November 10, 2014: Warner Bros. is ramping up production for the upcoming DC comics movie version of Suicide Squad. When the movie was first reported by Warner Bros. execs many people were surprised that the film was being made in the first place. Then it was announced that critically acclaimed director, David Ayer who just finished working Fury with Shia Labeouf and Brad Pitt would be directing and rewriting the script which quickly changed people’s expectations. Rumors hit the internet like wildfire saying that A-list actors such as Will Smith, Ryan Gosling, and Tom Hardy were in negotiations to work on the upcoming feature film. Well, details surrounding the Suicide Squad movie are finally being revealed.
According to reports, The Wolf of Wall Street’s Margot Robbie will play Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad. Harely Quinn is the villain’s girlfriend in the comic book series. Harley Quinn has been a key member of multiple Suicide Squad teams in the comic books so, expect Margot Robbie to have a critical role in the upcoming feature film. Margot Robbie has become a Hollywood A-lister after working alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street. The actress has landed several leading roles since then including Tarzan and Focus, alongside Will Smith.

Jared Leto is also in negotiations to join the Suicide Squad as the Joker. The Joker is one of the most iconic villains in comic book history. If the report is true and not just a rumor, Leto would be following in the footsteps of Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, who won an Academy Award posthumously for his work on The Dark Knight. Following in Heath Ledger’s performance would be a huge challenge for any actor, including an Academy Award winner. But, choosing Jared Leto may be the perfect actor for the role since he is willing to push himself to the limit in order to get into character.
Ryan Gosling was the initial pick to play the Joker. Gosling showed interest in the movie but was not interested in signing a contract for multiple movies.

Suicide Squad is currently in pre-production and is set to be released in 2016. Suicide Squad will center around several of Gotham’s bad guys who are sent off to complete missions sponsored by our government in exchange for reducing their prison sentences. Suicide Squad will hit theaters the same year as Zach Snyder’s Batman v Superman. which means no other movies are planned to introduce all of the crazy villains. Consequently, this movie will be an origin story for many of the villains, including the Joker since he will be played by a new actor.
