Movie Studios Cancel Steve Carell’s North Korea Movie

Date:

New Regency movie studio cancels Steve Carell’s upcoming North Korea movie.

It looks like Sony is not the only company concerned with censoring their movies. According to reports, an upcoming Steve Carell thriller is indefinitely put on hold, thanks to the movie’s North Korea centered plot.

According to Deadline, Pyongyong was a paranoid thriller developed for Carell by director Gore Verbinski. The movie was based on the graphic novel by Guy Delisle, a cartoonist who spent time in the country on a work visa. The movie centers on an American who is accussed of espionage.

Production was scheduled to start in March, but movie studios pulled the plug on Wednesday, claiming Twentieth Century Fox had cancelled their distribution agreement.

Carell called the entertainment industry’s cancelling of The Interview, “a sad day for creative expression.”
