Marvel and Sony discussed the possibility of a Spider-Man crossover in the new Captain America: Civil War movie.
Marvel and Sony have had talks about forming a Spider-Man alliance on the big screen, including the chance of adding Spider-Man in the upcoming Atlanta filmed production, Captain America: Civil War. Unfortunately for fans, those discussions eventually fell apart.

It has also been revealed that an animated Spider-Man comedy is in development at Sony with the producers Chris Miller and Phil Lord (22 Jump Street, The Lego Movie).
The Wall Street Journal reported on this issue, one which has been speculated for months. Rumors had been floating around that Spider-Man might somehow be reunited with Marvel, and now it seems that those rumors are true. The leaked information the discussions Marvel and Sony had comes from several documents that were leaked following the hacking scandal.

“The e-mails reveal extensive discussions between executives at Sony and Marvel owner Walt Disney, all the way up to their respective chief executives Kaz Hirai and Robert Iger,” says the Wall Street Journal. “In an Oct. 30 e-mail, Sony Pictures president Doug Belgrad tells [Sony motion picture chief Amy Pascal] about a potential scenario that would see Marvel produce a new trilogy of Spider-Man movies while Sony retains ‘creative control, marketing and distribution.’”

It is not sure how Sony could retain creative control over a Marvel production. But still, Pascal reportedly relates in one e-mail that Marvel wanted to include Spider-Man in the upcoming Captain America movie, Civil War. The character has a major role in the comic book version of the Civil War story.
All of these talks eventually “broke down” and Sony was planning to discuss the future of the Spider-Man franchise in January.
