While Kevin Hart is encouraging his friends and fellow celebrities to donate money towards the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, two of Hollywood’s biggest names are taking out their wallets and putting their money and resources to help those in need.
Both Leonardo DiCaprio and Sandra Bullock donated $1 million to Hurricane relief efforts.
According to Variety, Leonardo DiCaprio is the latest celebrity to pledge his money to the Texas victims of Hurricane Harvey. The Leonardo DiCaprio has pledged $1 million as the inaugural donation to the newly established United Way Harvey Recovery Fund. United Way Worldwide, which is the largest privately funded non-profit, said on Wednesday that all proceeds of the Harvey Recovery Fund would go directly to recovery efforts.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of Leonardo DiCaprio and his foundation,” said United Way Worldwide president and CEO Brian Gallagher. “Responding to Hurricane Harvey requires the best of all of us — and that’s what this gift represents.”
Meanwhile, Sandra Bullock also donated $1 million to Harvey relief efforts. “There are no politics in eight feet of water,” Bullock told People. “There are human beings in eight feet of water.”
Bullock, who has a home in Texas, encouraged everyone to do what they can to help those in need. “I’m just grateful I can do it,” Bullock said. “We all have to do our part.”
The Red Cross told People they were grateful for Bullock’s donation.
“This is an incredible gift. We’re so thankful,” said Elizabeth Penniman, Vice President of Communications for the American Red Cross. “Having someone like Sandra Bullock make this kind of commitment, it helps bring people together and open their hearts and be even more generous.”
