Are actors overrated? Ryan Reynolds seems to think so!
Ryan Reynolds, the Canadian born actor, became famous during the late 1990s after playing Michael Bergen in the ABC sitcom Two Guys and a Girl has had his career explode in the last twenty years. From starring on the Canadian teen soap opera Hillside to playing Hannibal King in Blade Trinity, Reynolds has made a career for being the comic-relief superhero in movies and TV.
But, in a recent interview, Reynolds called out Hollywood’s practice of promoting actors and sweeping crew members under the rug. Ultimately, Reynolds calls actors overrated and that they do not deserve all of the credit when a movie is successful.
“I don’t even want to say. Actors get an undeserved amount of credit when a movie works. The same is true when it doesn’t work. So you kind of take the good with the bad.”
That’s pretty surprising especially when the biggest award in The Academy Awards is the Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actors in a movie or TV show. But, what Reynolds is asserting is that more credit should be given to the men and women behind the camera who make it all possible. (Maybe even the background extras?)
Ryan Reynolds is currently wrapping up the final scenes to his new movie Deadpool which is expected to uplift his dying acting career. For example, his latest movie to premiere at a film festival was so bad that the audience actually booed him at the end of the movie. Ouch.
Here is a brief from our 2014 story.
The audience found the movie to be so bad that many people actually booed. The movie was received so poorly that Ryan Reynolds did not even show up for the film’s after party.
According to reports, “Ryan definitely seemed a little on edge. Wouldn’t be surprised if he skipped out on his party because the film is getting terrible reviews.” Reynolds “seemed preoccupied on his cell phone” while the duo dined at the restaurant but was still “really affectionate” with his wife Blake Lively.
“[It] looked like Blake was trying to cheer him up a few times … she rubbed his arm like she was consoling him and kept whispering in his ear,” the source continues. “At one point, Ryan smiled … and leaned into her for a kiss on the lips.”
Like Ryan Reynolds says, you take take the “good with the bad”; Because, as the saying goes, you are only as good as your last movie.
And Ryan Reynolds personally knows what it feels like when you’re on top of Hollywood one minute and the bottom of the totem pole the next. Which probably explains why he said he never wants his daughter to become an actress.
From The Hollywood Reporter:
“I worry that my daughter’s going to want to go into show business,” Reynolds said. “You worry about really stupid stuff.”
He went on to say that he drops career hints in his daughter’s ear — literally. “I like to whisper in her ear really normal, everyday jobs: ‘You’re going to be a flight attendant. A barista,’ ” Reynolds said. “Just normal, wonderful jobs. You can have a nice, normal life.”
