Robert Downey Jr. is looking to star in the upcoming Warner Bros. live-action Pinocchio movie.
Ron Howard is expected to direct the new Robert Downey Jr. live action Pinocchio movie. In development for sometime, Warner Bros. Pictures’ live-action Pinocchio movie appears to have found a new director. The Tracking Board reports that Ron Howard will recreate the classic story with Robert Downey Jr. playing the part of Pinocchio’s creator, Geppetto.
The Pinocchio story was first created in the late 1800s. Italian author Carlo Collodi’s novel, The Adventures of Pinocchio was published as first a serial, beginning in 1881. In 1940, Walt Disney Pictures released the most famous version of the story.
It is also rumored that Disney is also said to be developing their own “Pinocchio” movie with Guillermo del Toro assigned to create their 3D stop motion animated version of the movie.
Ben Stiller, Tim Burton and Paul Thomas Anderson were all lined up to direct the Warner Bros. movie. Details on the plot are few, but it is believed to feature Downey’s Geppetto as the main character, following the character as he goes looking for his lost son.
Ron Howard is probably the best man for the job. He won two Academy Awards for his work as both a director and a producer on 2001’s A Beautiful Mind, mind and he most recently directed the recently flopped movie In The Heart of the Sea.Â
Ron Howard latest movie is a sequel to The Da Vinci Code, the Inferno which is set to hit theaters on October 16.
