After two weeks of horrible ratings, ABC has canceled Of Kings and Prophets after only two episodes.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC has decided to pull the plug on Of Kings and Prophets and replace the show with reruns of the Shark Tank spinoff Beyond the Tank. The show apparently had really bad ratings with a 0.8 rating among adults ages 18-49 and 3.3 million viewers on the first episode and even less than that in the second episode.
Of Kings and Prophets was described as a Game of Thrones series for ABC featuring a biblical saga surrounding stories about the Bible. But, the show had problems from the start. There were several recastings and reshoots for the 15-episode straight-to-series drama. In addition, the show was bashed by the conservative watchdog group Parents Television Council, which labeled Kings as unfit for children for violence and nudity.
This is just the latest freshman TV series to flop for ABC. Here’s a list of shows canceled or on the verge of getting cancelled
- Wicked City
- Blood and Oil
- The Muppets
- The Family
All of the shows above suffered major rating drops and were bashed by TV critics, showing a tough year for ABC executives. However, that doesn’t mean ABC isn’t planning ahead. The network is currently filming The Jury in Atlanta, Georgia – producers are now hiring crew members and background extras.
