Netflix recently announced that beginning in early 2023, and it will charge an additional fee to users who share their account passwords with non-household members. This news was confirmed during the company’s quarterly earnings call. Although Netflix has not yet announced exactly when and which regions will be affected by this measure, the company has already begun its crackdown on password sharing — first in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru.
The report does not reveal the fee’s exact number, but if it follows the “one-quarter of the basic rate” strategy, it could be around $3-$4. Netflix users who want their subscription can now use the account migration feature to move data like viewing history and recommendations to a new standalone account.
