Selena Gomez is rumored to be banned from touring in China because of pictures with the Dalai Lama.
Selena Gomez is one of the most popular musical artist in the music industry but, her social media account may have gotten her into trouble. According to reports, Selena Gomez ‘s two concerts in China have been canceled after the Chinese government saw a photo with her alongside the Dalai Lama in 2014.
If these rumors are true, this would not of been the first time in major U.S artist was been put on China’s ban list for socializing with the Tibetan monk. Recently Maroon 5, Bon Jovi and Linkin Park have all had to recently cancel their concert dates for the same exact reason.
According to reports, any potential ban on Selena Gomez’s China tour will be due to an Instagram photo with Selena with the Monk 2014. She posted a photo saying “oh words of wisdom #speechless”
If Selena Gomez is truly banned for the country other for these tour dates are only for a longer period of time it would truly be ashamed. She posted a video on the Chinese social networking app and she couldn’t wait to see all for fans in her revival tour.
So why does China not like the Dali Lama? According to a CNN 2010 report “Analysis: Why the Dalai Lama angers China”, it’s due to the fact that the Dali Lama pushes for Tibet’s independence from China. “Chinese officials have vilified him as a “wolf in monk’s clothing” who seeks to destroy the country’s sovereignty by pushing for independence. The Dalai Lama maintains that he does not advocate independence but wants an autonomy that would allow Tibetans to maintain their cultural, language and religion under China’s rule.”
Unfortunately, Selena Gomez got caught in a 60 year old political conflict and now she has to pay the consequences.
