Tyler Perry’s ‘Madea Halloween’ Beats Tom Hanks in the Box Office

Date:

Tyler Perry proves for the second week in a row that he is the most powerful man in Hollywood.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Halloween beat out Academy Award winning actor Tom Hanks in the box office. Tom Hanks’ Inferno lost in the box office earning only $15 million from 3,575 theaters. Meanwhile, Tyler Perry earned an additional $16.7 million from nearly a thousand less theaters.

The third movie in the Da Vinci Code franchise bombed, becoming the latest franchise to flop in the box office. The movie also marks another box office disaster for Ron Howard after his last feature film In The Heart of the Sea also flopped in the box office.

However, Inferno still has the opportunity to bounce back once the movie is released overseas. “We’re disappointed in the U.S. opening, but we’re very pleased with how the film is performing internationally,” Sony worldwide president of marketing and distribution Josh Greenstein told THR on Sunday.

Tyler Perry’s feature film fell only 41 percent in its second weekend for a 10-day domestic total of roughly $50 million for Tyler Perry, which is incredible for a movie that was filmed in six days.

Tyler Perry’s Boo! Madea Halloween centers around Madea who winds up in the middle of mayhem when she spends a haunted Halloween fending off killers, paranormal poltergeists, ghosts, ghouls and zombies while keeping a watchful eye on a group of misbehaving teens. The movie featured Tyler Perry, Cassi Davis, and Patrice Lovely.

Tom Hanks’ Inferno follows Robert Langdon who wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Dr. Sienna Brooks, and together they must race across Europe against the clock to foil a deadly global plot.
