Disney Execs Are “Not Happy” with ‘Star Wars: Rogue One”

Date:

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is undergoing expensive reshoots this summer because Disney executives are not happy with the spin-off.

The first Star Wars spin-0ff may be off to a rocky start. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is in “crisis” and the movie will have to go into expensive reshoots over the summer.

According to Page Six sources, Disney executives are not happy with the first cut from the Rogue One movie, which is directed by Gareth Edwards.

One Hollywood source told Page Six, “The execs at Disney are not happy with the movie, and Rogue One will have to go back into four weeks of expensive reshoots in July.”

Rogue One features Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker and Diego Luna. The Star Wars franchise’s first spin-off movie will be a flashback between Star Wars Episode III and IV. The plot reportedly shows resistance fighters embarking on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star before it can be used to enforce the Emperor’s cruel rule.

There has been a lot of speculation that the movie will be a lot darker and Darth Vader will appear as the Emperor’s chief enforcer. It is also believed that a young Han Solo will make a cameo appearance. Page Six exclusively revealed earlier this month that Alden Ehrenreich has landed the lead role as the younger version of Han Solo, a role which was made famous by Harrison Ford.

It was announced earlier this month that Edwards decided not to direct Godzilla 2  and would instead “focus on smaller films.” However, the movie insider told Page Six, “Gareth’s work on the first Godzilla [which came out in 2014] shows he can handle a big studio blockbuster. But Rogue One has fallen short of what J.J. Abrams did with Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens. So Disney has ordered reshoots.”

Edwards is known for pushing the limits as a director, but reports have surfaced that he also enjoys making movies without studio influence. The source added, “Disney won’t take a back seat, and is demanding changes, as the movie isn’t testing well.”

Star Wars Rogue One

A Disney source told Page Six that , “The filmmaking team and the studio always anticipated additional shooting and second unit work to make the film the absolute best it can be, and the actors were aware there would be additional shooting. Coming off The Force Awakens, there’s an incredibly high bar for this movie and we have a responsibility to the franchise and to the fans to deliver the best possible movie we can.”

Disney is facing a ton of pressure. The last Star Wars movie was a hit and broke records all over the world and the next movie is forced to compete with high expectations while also introducing new characters, storylines and crossover movies. While, it may seem like a dream come true for any aspiring filmmaker to sit in the driver seat of this epic adventure series, it will most likely require a ton of confidence, support, and The Force to turn an idea into a reality.
