Jonah Hill says he doubts a Jump Street crossover movie is actually going to happen.
The idea first started off as a joke, mixing Men in Black and the modern day version of Jump Street series was almost too outrageous too be true. When it initially leaked many people thought it was a really bad rumor. The idea of 23 Jump Street/Men in Black crossover was ridiculous, but Sony was apparently moving forward with the idea, even hiring a director for the project. They even came up with a title for the movie, MIB 23.
But now, according to Entertainment Weekly, Jonah Hill doesn’t seem to think that Sony has cooled off on the concept and that it might not actually happen.
“They’re trying to make all the deals, but it’s kind of impossible with all the Men in Black stuff,” he said. “The Jump Street films were so fun to make, and the whole joke of them was they were making fun of remakes and sequels and reboots, and then now it’s become a giant sequel, reboot. It’s almost become what we were making fun of, and it’s hard to maintain that joke when it’s so high-stakes.”
Jonah Hill makes it sound like an Inception of bad ideas.
So while the movie will most likely be back for another sequel, the chances of it actually featuring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones is probably not going to happen, which begs the question – can you really make a Men in Black movie without Will Smith?
