Johnny Depp will star as The Invisible Man in his next movie.
According to reports, Johnny Depp is joining Univesal’s growing monster universe. Depp has signed on to star in The Invisible Man, the studios’s latest movie developed by produced by Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan.
It is unclear where the movie stands in terms of development. There is no director attached at this point in time. The studio has a writers room with elite scribes, overseen by Kurtzman and Morgan, who are concentrating on making reboots of the entire line of Universal’s classic monsters.
Ed Solomon, who is known for writing Men in Black and Now You See Me, will be writing Invisible Man.
The new movie is based on the HG Wells novel that was adapted into the 1933 black-and-white classic starring Claude Rains.
In the original movie, Rains played a chemist who uses a dangerous drug to become invisible. The transformation leaves him paranoid and psychotic which sparks a killing spree.
According The Hollywood Reporter, Universal is planning on expanding their monster universe. First movie Universal Studios has planned is the Tom Cruise Mummy reboot and now this Johnny Depp feature. This is a major signal that Universal is concentrating on expanding the number of monster movies.
