Michael J. Fox Open to the Possibility of a ‘Back to the Future’ Reboot
Michael J. Fox expressed openness to the idea of a reboot for the beloved film franchise, Back to the Future. The actor, known as Marty McFly, stated that he wouldn’t oppose a reboot, acknowledging that it’s up to the filmmakers. I got paid.
Fox doubted the prospect of a reboot, noting that the original trilogy’s director, Robert Zemeckis, and co-writer, Bob Gale, are unlikely to support the idea. He commended their intelligence in handling the franchise and questioned the necessity of a reboot, wondering if it would bring something new to the story. Fox expressed doubt, saying, “Are you going to clarify something? Are you going to find a better way to tell the story?
When asked if he had been approached about another Back to the Future film, Fox mentioned that he might have been considered during the early stages of his Parkinson’s disease but never actively engaged in discussions. He reflected on the time after the success of Back to the Future Part Three, saying, “I’m sure somebody thought about it. But I was in the early stages of Parkinson’s, so I don’t know if I would have wanted to take that on. After ‘Part Three’ had done well, there might have been conversations about it, but I never got involved in them.”
On the other hand, Fox’s co-star, Christopher Lloyd, expressed a more optimistic view, stating that he would be interested in participating in a sequel. Lloyd mentioned that if a brilliant idea emerged to justify a fourth film, it might become a reality.
Aside from discussing the potential reboot, Michael J. Fox opened up about his career, personal life, and advocacy for Parkinson’s research in a new documentary titled Still. The documentary, directed by Davis Guggenheim, can be streamed on Apple TV+.
