After winning an Academy Award, Matthew McConaughey may not be in the upcoming Magic Mike sequel, Magic Mike XXL.
Many argue that Matthew McConaughey was robbed of an Academy Award after his performance in Magic Mike. Think about it, he was a crucial part to the success of the feature film. His performance for “Ladies of Tampa” has men and women excited for the sequel.
It is arguable that Matthew McConaughey had so much of a major influence in Magic Mike, that Channing Tatum, writer of Magic Mike 2, uses a sculpture of Matthew McConaughey as inspiration for the sequel (see the photo below).
But, according to Gabriel Iglesias in a recent interview with Dish Nation, Matthew McConaughey may not even be involved in the movie.
“Word has it that Matt’s probably not gonna be involved, because he’s worth a lot of money now – that whole Oscar thing – so, but yeah, I’ve signed on for part two.”
It must a secret rule that after winning an Academy Award you can’t do stripper movies any more.
Gregory Jacobs is expected to direct the sequel, taking over from the original director Steven Soderbergh. Jacobs was the assistant director in the previous Magic Mike movie.
Channing Tatum Told GQ that a sequel will be set in a stripper convention, based again on his experiences as a stripper. Gabriel Iglesias said he’s heard that they are “taking the show on the road.”
Magic Mike XXL will hit theaters in the Summer of July 3, 2015. Regardless of Matthew McConaughey, Fourth of July is going to be one hot summer weekend.
