‘The Matrix’ Reboot is Coming Soon

Date:

There have a been a ton of reboots in the past couple years, from The Lion King to Beauty and the Beast to It. Now, another hit movie is getting the reboot treatment.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. “is in the early stages” of bringing a reboot to The Matrix. The Hollywood Reporter also points out that Michael B. Jordan may replace Keanu Reeves as Neo. But, the Wachowskis, who wrote and directed the original movie will have nothing to do with the project. In fact, X-Men: The Last Stand author Zak Penn is currently “in talks,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Also, first movie producer Joel Silver is reportedly unlikely going to have a role in the production. Silver, who sold the rights to several movies including the Matrix, Lethal Weapon, and Sherlock Holmes, sold the franchise rights to the Matrix for $30 million in 2012.

The Matrix was the 1999 surprise box office hit movie about a computer programmer (Reeves) who rises to become humanity’s last hope. It became the biggest moneymaker of 1999 among R-rated films and spawned two popular sequels.
