Liam Neeson Lamented that ‘Star Wars’ Is Being Detrimentally Affected by the Overabundance of Spinoffs: ‘It’s Erased Much of the Mystery and Magic.’
Every time Liam Neeson is interviewed, he’s invariably asked if he’d be open to playing the Jedi master Qui-Gon Jinn again in a “Star Wars” spinoff. Unfortunately, the answer was no when Liam Neeson accompanied Paul Rudd in their appearance on February 16th’s “Watch What Happens Live!”. Neeson further elaborated that he declined to come back as Qui-Gon Jinn because the “Star Wars” universe was diluting its allure.
“No, I’m not,” When inquired about his interest in a return, Neeson replied affirmatively. “There are so many spinoffs of ‘Star Wars.’ It’s diluting it to me, and it’s taken away the mystery and the magic in a weird way.”
Liam Neeson had a momentary appearance in the Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” delivering just two lines of dialogue. His illustrious journey in the galactic world of “Star Wars” began with “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace,” but sadly, his character’s destiny was cut short. Last year, Neeson imparted to ComicBook.com that he would be open to returning as Qui-Gon Jinn; however, it must be in the form of a movie rather than for TV.
“Oh, I think so, yeah, yeah, yeah, I think so…if it was a film,” Neeson said about a potential “Star Wars” return. “Yeah, I’m a bit of a snob regarding TV. I like the big screen, you know? Qui-Gon, I can’t believe it’s 24 years since we made ‘The Phantom Menace,’ I cannot believe where the time has gone. It was a terrific experience shooting that film in London.”
Liam Neeson asserts that the “Star Wars” franchise has been overwhelmed by spinoffs. From the Lucasfilm, powerhouse comes two exciting, outside-the-box films–“Rogue One” and “Solo,” now available to watch on the big screen. Experience a brand new chapter in the world of Star Wars that expands beyond its central Skywalker saga! As the franchise continues to grow, Disney+ has released captivating shows like “The Mandalorian,” “The Book of Boba Fett,” and most recently “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Each series draws in a new wave of viewers eager to be immersed in the Star Wars universe. Experience thrilling adventures with the upcoming series: “The Mandalorian” season 3, premiering March 1st, as well as the riveting arcs of “Ashoka” and “The Acolyte.”
