UPDATE: Jurassic World ‘Dominion’ dominates the Box Office
The fourth film in the lucrative Jurassic World series opened at number one this past week with USD 143 million worth of tickets sold from 4,676 theaters in the United States alone.
Global sales were also up at USD 245 million, fueled by premiers in China and France which each contributed at least USD 50 million a piece.
The Dominion installment actually comes in as the third-best premier for a Jurassic movie after Jurassic World which debuted at USD 208.8M and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom which made USD 148M on opening day. Dominion was so successful that it overtook Tom Cruise’s Top Gun for the number one spot in ticket sales for the week.
The movie features an ensemble cast including Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, both of whom are returning for their second outing. The strong box office results come as no surprise, as the franchise managed to gain new fans from the film’s previous runs.
All-in-all, after two years of a pandemic slowdown in theater sales, Hollywood is poised for a strong comeback this summer.
