Jeffrey Dahmer’s newfound fame has led to an uptick in people wanting to dress up like serial killers for Halloween. In response, eBay has banned any Jeffrey Dahmer-inspired costumes from being sold on its platform. A spokesperson for eBay told CBS MoneyWatch that the sale of all Dahmer paraphernalia is restricted as it goes against its “violence and violent criminals policy.”

The policy outlines the company’s position on not allowing listings that “promote or glorify violence or violent acts or are associated with individuals who are notorious for committing violent acts” while promoting safety and respecting the victims of violent crimes.
After the runaway success of Netflix’s Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story series, retailers began selling Halloween costumes and accessories based on the character. However, many stores have decided to ban these items after a public outcry. Numerous people on social media have stated that wearing a costume of a real-life criminal is inappropriate, emphasizing the thoughtlessness towards victims’ families.
