The star of the Netflix series “Ozark,” Jason Bateman, says he will no longer work in Georgia if the heartbeat bill becomes law.
“If the ‘heartbeat bill’ makes it through the court system, I will not work in Georgia, or any other state, that is so disgracefully at odds with women’s rights,” Bateman told The Hollywood Reporter.
Bateman is the latest actor to call out the heartbeat bill, which outlaws most abortions once a doctor can detect a fetus heartbeat, which is usually around six weeks into a pregnancy and typically before women know they are pregnant.
Many Hollywood actors and production companies have called out the anti-abortion law. Including Jameela Jamil, Natalie Portman, Judd Apatow, Ben Stiller, Sean Penn, Ron Howard, and Jason Bateman.
Over the weekend, Gov. Brian Kemp dismissed the boycotts as a “squawk” from “C-list celebrities” angry over Georgia, and other states have passed abortion laws.
“He doesn’t seem to understand that men are a part of Impregnation. Somehow everything is always women’s responsibility,” Patricia Arquette tweeted, who has won an Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Critics’ Choice Award, Golden Globe Award, Independent Spirit Award, Satellite Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award, along with many other critics prizes, for Best Supporting Actress.
