Jamie Lee Curtis Gets Emotional Over L.A. Fires: ‘This Is Where I Live’

During a heartfelt appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, acclaimed actress Jamie Lee Curtis opened up about the devastating fires sweeping through her Los Angeles neighborhood. The 66-year-old actress, known for her roles in Halloween and Freaky Friday, struggled to hold back tears as she shared the impact of the catastrophe on her community.

“I’m literally just about to cry,” Curtis said, her voice breaking as host Jimmy Fallon, 50, expressed his condolences. “As you know, where I live is on fire right now. Literally the entire city of the Pacific Palisades is burning.”

An Emotional Appeal

Curtis’ appearance came after she had flown to New York City for the show, leaving behind a neighborhood engulfed in flames. “I was on the plane, started getting texts, and it’s [bleep] gnarly, you guys,” she said. The actress described the devastation, mentioning that local markets, schools, and homes belonging to friends had been destroyed.

Calling it “a catastrophe in Southern California,” Curtis acknowledged the widespread impact of fires globally but noted the personal toll of seeing her own community ravaged.

Rallying for Support

Amid the emotional discussion, Curtis urged the audience and viewers to take action. “Do anything you can. Anything in your community to help people,” she implored. She emphasized the importance of giving back, whether through blood donations, monetary contributions, or volunteer efforts. Curtis specifically encouraged supporting organizations like the American Red Cross, which play a critical role in disaster relief.

Her plea highlights the urgent need for solidarity during times of crisis. “Whether you need it or not now, you will need it. Give blood, donate, whatever you can do,” she said.

Returning Home to Help

Curtis, who shares daughters Ruby, 25, and Annie, 34, with her husband, screenwriter Christopher Guest, revealed plans to return to Los Angeles the next day to assist her community. “I’m going home to be with my family and try to help my friends,” she said, underscoring her commitment to supporting those directly impacted by the fires.

The Pacific Palisades fire, which erupted on Jan. 7, 2025, has destroyed homes and displaced hundreds. Curtis reassured fans that her family was safe but expressed deep concern for her neighbors and friends.

A Reminder of Resilience

This isn’t the first time Curtis has spoken publicly about resilience and hope. Earlier in the year, she shared her focus on embracing positivity in 2025. “I am doing away with disappointment and choosing hope,” she said in an exclusive interview. Her latest call to action echoes this sentiment, reminding audiences of the strength found in unity and community support.
