The Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague was first built and created in 1946 when Prague was hit by the Iron Curtain, the legendary film academy made such amazing filmmakers as Milos Forman, Ivan Passer, Agnieszka Holland, Emir Kusturica and Jiri Menzel furthermore the academy was a key location for student reblems during Czechoslovakia’s Velvet Revolution.

With classes in Czech and English, its reputation is still strong enough that it draws many foreigners to its nine departments (ranging from still photography to documentaries to screenwriting), something helped by partnerships with NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, American University and Yale, all of which offer study-abroad programs there.

Programs

FAMU International has various programs in English, from one to six week summer workshops to one semester programs organized abroad to one year programs to full master degree programs.

Generally speaking, each program consists of a varying proportion of practical filmmaking with assistance, writing skills connected to practical processes and academic disciplines related to the audiovisual field with their reflections and methodologies. Each program has different conditions for admission.
