House of Cards leaving Baltimore, Maryland to Film in Sante Fe, New Mexico

The House of Cards is leaving Baltimore, Maryland to film in Sante Fe, New Mexico. According to reports, House of Cards is picking up their bags to film in the New Mexico state capitol.

According to tipsters, the third season finale of the Netflix original series will film within just a matter of weeks. Set in Washington D.C., no word on how in the world a Santa Fe backdrop will or will not play into the political drama’s storyline; which has thus far filmed at the offices of The Baltimore Sun, Havre de Grace, Maryland and Aberdeen, Maryland, with exterior scenes of Washington D.C. filmed at the National Mall including road closures at Avenues Pennsylvania and Constitution. Netflix announced on February 4, 2014 that House of Cards has been renewed for a third season and is expected to be released around February 2015.

Season 2 left off with Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) being sworn in as the President of the United States. Details surrounding by the third season have not been released.

Recently, the state of Maryland released a report criticizing House of Cards for using tax incentives provided by Maryland but not reinvesting those incentives back into the state. Ultimately, calling the House of Cards tax incentives as a worthless investment.

Since 2012, the report says, Maryland has authorized $62.5 million in tax credits for film and television productions, with HBO’s “Veep” being another big beneficiary. For every dollar granted in credits, state and local governments received only about 10 cents in tax revenue in return, according to legislative analysts.[via]
