HBO Max Increases Prices — Get Ready to Pay More!

After two years of being available, Warner Bros. Discovery is finally increasing the subscription fee for HBO Max.

Starting on January 12th, HBO Max’s no-ads monthly subscription in the U.S. will dramatically jump by nearly 7%, from $14.99 to $15.99 USD (plus applicable taxes). Current subscribers can expect their new rate of $15.99 per month to take effect on February 11th, 2023, or upon their next billing cycle—whichever comes first!

To justify their price hike, the parent company released a statement: “This price increase of one dollar will allow us to continue to invest in providing even more culture-defining programming and improving our customer experience for all users.” The rate increase is part of the considerable adjustments that resulted from Warner Bros. Discovery’s creation through the union between Discovery and WarnerMedia. Last month, the company hiked its prices and removed fan favorites like Westworld and Raised by Wolves from their service to license them out to third-party free streaming TV partners.

JB Perrette, the president and CEO of global streaming and games, had already warned us about potential price increases; thus, this recent price rise did not come as a shock. “It will have been three years since pricing has moved, which we think is an opportunity, particularly in this environment…We believe there’s actually some pricing advantage for us on the ad-free [HBO Max] service, and we can probably move north of where the prices are today.”
