With a $70 million budget, Dracula Untold beat out other debuting wide releases including Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and The Judge.

According to Forbes, Dracula Untold was catered to a large male audience.

[Dracula Untold] played 57% male and 61% over-25 years old. It played 31% Hispanic, 29% Caucasian, 24% Afr. American, 10% Asian, and 6% “others.”. […] The film has also earned $62.6m overseas thus far, bringing its worldwide cume to $86.1m.

The Judge, the Robert Downey Jr. lawyer-drama, failed in the box office this weekend with a $13.3 million debut on a $50 million budget. Many people assumed The Judge was going to be an Oscar award winning movie. But, it appears as though audiences would rather be entertained instead of witness a possible Academy Award nominated feature film.

The next biggest release over the weekend was the Georgia filmed feature, Addicted. Addicted made $7.6 million on a limited release, which is the highest-per-screen average of the top 10 movies. After Lionsgate ended their relationship with Tyler Perry, they have connected with the sex novel queen, Zane. Despite having the lowest RottenTomatoes score of any new release, Addicted played towards 72% African American, 15% Latino, and 82% female audience; Which illustrates, Lionsgate made the right decision tapping into the “based on the novel by Zane” audience.
