Lee Daniels didn’t hold back his feelings when it came to the Emmys passing on Empire for a large majority of the nomination categories.
The show’s co-creator posted a video of him and Jussie Smollet, who plays Jamal Lyon, having a discussion about the Emmy’s and it was far from PG.
“Jussie is saying I have to be politically correct on Instagram or I’m going to get in trouble,” says Daniels. “You have to be nice!” jokes Smollett. “Fuck these motherfuckers!” Daniels exclaims.
Hours later Lee Daniels indirectly apologized. According to deadline, after dropping the F-bomb online earlier today over the Emmy snubs of Empire, Lee Daniels now is saying it was all a joke.
The executive producer went back online Thursday to apparently clarify his remarks in a much calmer fashion. Daniels says he “loves the Emmys” and has nothing but good wishes for the nominations that his show received and others. While Taraji P. Henson snared a Best Actress nom, fellow lead Terrence Howard came up empty-handed, as did the show, unexpectedly, in the Drama Series category.
The show wasn’t ignored completely. Empire’s Cookie Lyons played Taraji P. Henson received a nomination for lead actress in a drama. In addition, the costume department was also recognized for their work with another nomination.
