Donald Glover’s ‘Star Wars Series ‘Lando’ to Transform into a Feature Film.
In a surprising turn of events, Donald Glover’s involvement in the Star Wars universe has taken a different path. Originally slated as a television series for Disney+, the Lando project, which Donald and Stephen Glover were enlisted to write following the departure of Justin Simien, has now been reimagined as a feature film. Lucasfilm has confirmed this shift in direction, marking a significant development in the Star Wars franchise. Donald Glover first brought the charismatic young Lando Calrissian to life in the 2017 Star Wars film, “Solo.”
The revelation about the Lando film came during a recent episode of the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast, where Stephen Glover disclosed the news. When asked about his ongoing projects, Stephen commented, “It’s not even a show…the idea right now is to do a movie. Right now, because of the strike, it’s kind of like telephone, all of the information.” Unfortunately, he couldn’t divulge more details due to the current circumstances.
The initial announcement of the Lando series for Disney+ dates back to December 2020, following Justin Simien’s exit from the project. The Glover brothers stepped in to take creative control. Billy Dee Williams initially portrayed the iconic character of Lando Calrissian in “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi.” Donald Glover mentioned his involvement in another Lando-centric project in a GQ video interview, stating, “We’re talking about it. That’s as much as I can say without [Lucasfilm president] Kathleen Kennedy hunting me down. I would love to play Lando again. It’s a fun time, being him. It just has to be the right way to do it. Time is precious.”
In unrelated entertainment news, Netflix recently announced the renewal of “One Piece” for a second season.
