Disney is developing a live-action version of ‘Pinocchio’ based on the 1940 animated movie.
According to reports, ‘Pinocchio’ is the latest in Disney’s strategy of rebooting cartoon classics into live action movies. The studio announced last week their plans to make a live action version of ‘Winnie the Pooh,’ ‘Mulan’ and ‘Dumbo. All of this stems from the success of ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ ‘Maleficent’ and Cinderella’. In addition, a live-action ‘Jungle Book’ is set to release in 2016 followed by a ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ movie featuring Emma Watson in 2017.
The 1940 movie was based on Carlo Collodi’s 1883 children’s book “The Adventures of Pinocchio,” centered around an animated puppet and a poor woodcarver. “Pinocchio” was the second animated movie produced by Disney, following 1937’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” but the movie was not a box office success.
