Is Damian Lewis the Next James Bond?
Fans may be pulling for Idris Elba to take over as James Bond once Daniel Craig decides he no longer wants to play 007. But the franchise’s producers may be looking at a different leading man.
According to reports, Damian Lewis, bests known for his role as Nicholas Brody on Homeland will be the next James Bond. British Tabloid the Sunday Mirror says “a well-placed sourced” claims Lewis is the actor for the job.
“If Daniel Craig leaves, it’s Damian Lewis who will be crowned the new Bond,” the Sunday Mirror wrote. “He is seen as an all-round international star who is perfect for the role. As he ages, he looks increasingly suave and sophisticated.”
Damian Lewis would be the first redhead to play Bond. His age also lines up. The actor is 44 years old. Craig is 47.
Lewis is an English actor and Producer who is best known for portraying U.S. Marine Sergeant Nicholas Bordy in the Showtime series Homeland, which earned a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. He also appeared in the NBC Drama Life, HBO’s miniseries Band of Brothers and Wolf Hall, which earned him his third Primetime Emmy Award nomination.
Growing up in St. John’s Wood, London, he decided to become an actor age age 16. He graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1993, where he served as a stage actor for the Royal Shakespeare Company. During his time, he played several of the major roles.
Starting his career as a telemarketer selling car alarms. He would later appear in Robins Crusoe, Hamlet and the movie that launched his career, Steven Spielberg’s Band of Brothers.
“Spectre,” which opens in the United States on Nov. 6, may or may not be Daniel Craig’s final Bond-film. But, what do you think about Lewis possibly taking over as the new James Bond?
