Olivia Wilde Reveals Why She Wasn’t Cast for ‘Wolf of Wall Street’

Date:

Olivia Wilde says she was too old for the leading role in Wolf of Wall Street.

Can someone be too old to work in Hollywood? According to recent revelations by A-list actresses, the answer is yes. The latest actress to join the conversation about the controversy surrounding age in Hollywood is Olivia Wilde.

During an interview with Howard Stern, Olivia Wilde was told she was too old for a role in The Wolf of Wall Street. But, that’s not the first time. Wilde explains that talent agencies have euphemisms or code words to protect the fact that producers and casting directors are not interested in actress over 30 years old.

“I want to make a translation sheet for Hollywood that’s all the feedback your agents give you and what it really means.”

“The funniest thing I heard recently was I had heard for a part that I was too sophisticated,” she told Howard Stern on Tuesday. “I was like, ‘Oh, that sounds nice.’ I like that feedback. I didn’t get the part, but I’m a very sophisticated person.”

But, just because she was turned down for a role on The Wolf of Wall Street doesn’t mean that she takes it personal saying: “I have some ability to cut off emotionally — the second I don’t get a role, it’s dead to me.”

Luckily, her audition for Wolf of Wall Street helped her land her next acting job in the hit HBO series Vinyl. “It shows that if you don’t get something — job interview, whatever you do for a living — it might lead to something else.
