Marlon Wayans reveals how he creates parody movies like Fifty Shades of Black.
Marlon Wayans has been entertaining audiences ever since I was a child. Now, his new movie Fifty Shades of Black is attempting to poke fun at Hollywood using Marlon Wayans’ talent of creating funny parodies.
But, in a recent interview with Variety, Marlon Wayans believes “there’s a science to it.”
“It has to be organic. There’s a science to it, but you just have to be smart about your approach,” Wayans told reporters on Tuesday at the LA premiere of Fifty Shades of Black.
The movie is a parody of Fifty Shades of Grey and centers around the relationship of shy, inexperienced college student Hannah and shady businessman Christian Black.
Co-writer and producer Rick Alvarez pointed out that it’s not a walk in the park to creating a good parody movie.
It’s important that audiences are ready to find the humor in whatever subject is being spoofed.
“Then of course you have to bring in a great cast — people who are really funny, but are in on the joke and want to tell it,” he added.
Fifty Shades of Black is the third movie for Wayans, Alvarez and director Michael Tiddes, who first worked together in the 2013 hit movie A Haunted House and then again for A Haunted House 2.
“We make a great team,” said Alvarez of the dynamic trio. “We’re this three-headed-monster, and it just works.”
