Hundreds of people people evacuated from Old Vic theatre in central London after ‘security alert’
Neither the Old Vic or Metropolitan Police used the words “Bomb threat” to describe the situation though evacuated patrons and the BBC did.
A little after 11:30 a.m. ET, the theater’s management confirmed via Twitter it had been evacuated as a safety precaution and they were “Liaising with the Metropolitan Police.”
About 20 minutes after the evacuation, the Metropolitan Police and Old Vic provided a Twitter update, saying, “The incident was found not to be suspicious,” adding that the evening’s performance would go on as scheduled.
The BBC reported that in addition to the Old Vic, nearby pubs and restaurants located near Waterloo were emptied, with some people being taken to theImperial War Museum gardens.
Evacuated reported that they saw armed police and dogs and fire trucks entering around the theater.
