Halle Berry is now unemployed as CBS cancels Extant.
When Halle Berry first announced that she was heading to TV, everyone was extremely excited. Including myself, I waited for CBS to unveil this new series featuring the queen of Hollywood, Halle Berry. But, by episode three of Extant I stopped watching. It wasn’t the fact that the show’s plot made less sense than a nuclear physics to a five year old but, because Halle Berry suffered a major loss by deciding to head to TV especially for a show like Extant.
Well, I guess my feelings were not alone because CBS executives sat down and decided to cancel Halle Berry’s TV series Extant after only two seasons.
“CBS, Halle Berry and the producers have decided to conclude the Extant story after last season’s exciting and fitting conclusion,” CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller said. “Extant played an important role in expanding CBS’ lineup of original scripted programming in the summer. We are proud of the show’s success on the network, as well as its popularity on Amazon Prime Video. We also want to thank the incomparable Halle Berry for her commitment and support for the series, and look forward to working with her on our next project together.”
But, luckily for Halle Berry, CBS has hired her for another show. The new series called Legalease, focuses on Halle Berry who will play a biracial lawyer who follows a case to New Orleans, where she partners with a white attorney while she works on exposing a corrupt justice system. Unfortunately for Halle Berry, this show sounds like a cheap knock-off of Viola Davis’ How to Get Away with Murder and there is nothing Halle Berry can do to compete with, Emmy Award winning actress, Viola Davis’ acting chops.
It begs the question – why is Halle Berry still on TV? Apparently, Halle Berry signed a two year overall deal with CBSTV. It is unclear if Halle Berry will actually have an onscreen role on the show or if she will just produce the production. Hopefully, she decides the latter.
