California Gov. Gavin Newsom revealed on Tuesday, a guide on how to reopen California’s economy, as government officials consider lifting restrictions, which have been in place for nearly a month. He pointed out six key things to help inform state officials regarding when stay-at-home orders issued amid the Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak.
“This phase is one where science – public health, not politics, must be the guide,” he explained in a public televised address. “Where must be open to argument, interested in evidence, where we cannot be ideological in any way, shape or form in terms of how we approach a condition that changes on an hourly and daily basis – conditions that will ultimately determine what decisions we make.”
Here are the six-figure plan and what it will take to restart California.
- 1. Increased Testing
- 2. Protect the vulnerable including seniors, the homeless, and those with immune deficiencies
- 3. Additional equipment for hospitals, staff, and to prepare for potential surges of COVID-19
- 4. Work closely with research and academics
- 5. Change floor plans for businesses, schools, and other facilities to encourage safe social distancing
- 6. Implementing planned interventions when necessary
Newsom explains with increased testing it is necessary “to appropriately address the tracing and tracking of individuals – the isolation and the quarantine of individuals using the technology and using a workforce that needs to be trained in an infrastructure that needs to be in place in order to begin the process to transition.”
He added, there is an urgency to protect those most at risk saying, “the most vulnerable populations in the state of California from infection and spread,”
Newsom asserted the need to be prepared, “as we adopt new strategies [and] we loosen the stay-at-home orders. … We need to make sure that that infrastructure is protected and to make sure that those assets are well prepared.” He added, research and a vaccine “we hope, the next year or so”, will allow for California to reopen.
