The journey of this sequel’s making has been a winding one. The attempt to create a sequel started in 1990 with writer Jonathan Gems working on a script titled “Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian.” Multiple script revision offers were made to notable figures such as Daniel Waters, Pamela Norris, and Kevin Smith. It was not until 2011 when Seth Grahame-Smith was hired to write and produce a new version of the sequel. Later on, in 2017, this script was further reworked by Mike Vukadinovich. Finally, the screenplay was entrusted to Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the co-creators and co-showrunners of Wednesday.
