As a Batman follower, you might have heard whisperings about an Arkham Asylum TV series. Well, we’ve got some not-so-great news. reports that the Arkham Asylum TV series, which was being whipped up for Max, has been dropped. Bummer!

A Few Years of Ups and Downs

The series project, which had been in the pipeline for a few years, saw quite a few creative minds come and go. Announced around four years ago, its initial plans didn’t quite revolve around Arkham Asylum, but rather around the Gotham City Police Department.

Terence Winter, famous for his on Empire, was chosen to write and executive produce this spin-off from Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Unfortunately, he exited the series due to creative differences. Then, Joe Barton of The Lazarus Project fame was brought on board, but he also ended up leaving when the series attention shifted to Arkham Asylum.

Antonio Campos, who you might know from The Staircase, was the last one tapped to take charge. Unfortunately, it looked like the series just wasn’t destined to be a hit. Though, an anonymous source did tell Variety that we may see a new Arkham Asylum project coming up in the future. So, let’s not lose all hope!

An Evolution in Storyline

Matt Reeves confirmed last year that the GCPD series had surely evolved to more on the chaotic world of Arkham Asylum. According to Reeves, they were trying to create a unique experience centered around Arkham like a horror or a haunted house. They wanted Arkham to be as much a character as Gotham is. However, this twist in the plot came before James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios.

James Gunn later shared on social media that despite the shift in control, the project was not dead. But, it would be turned into a DCU show instead of a direct to The Batman.

A Glimmer of Hope for Batman Fans

Although the Arkham Asylum series has been put on ice for now, Batman fans have something to look forward to. We’re getting a Batman-related TV series named “The Penguin”. The Penguin is picking up where The Batman left off, with Colin Farrell putting his Penguin hat back on in a post-Batman landscape. This series is set to kickoff on Max from September 8th. Can’t wait!

In other Batman news, The Batman Part II is also lined up for an October 2, 2026 release. So, there’s a whole schedule of Batman-related content to satisfy your cravings. Keep an eye out, and we’ll keep delivering all the hot news straight from Gotham City. Stay tuned!
