Judd Apatow’s directorial efforts may be few and far between these days, but the guy still has an eye for talent like a St. Louis Cardinals pitching scout. With Anchorman: The Legend Continues on its way and steamrolling us with advertising tie-ins, Apatow is apparently next focusing his production efforts on the already wildly successful comedy duo Key & Peele, who have made their homes at Comedy Central for three seasons, with a fourth recently ordered.
According to Deadline, Apatow, Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele have signed a deal with Universal Pictures to bring their unique sketch comedy style and great impressions to the big screen. Of course, we have no clue what this movie is going to be about just yet, but Apatow’s praise for the duo is beyond glowing.
“I love these guys because they are riotously, make you sick because you can’t stop laughing, funny,” Apatow said. “I think Key and Peele are capable of making the movie that America desperately needs right now.” (Via Deadline)
It’s kind of ironic that the guy who produced Anchorman: The Legend Continues, a sequel that we really didn’t need, is telling us what America desperately needs, but I think Apatow has earned our trust by now. As long as Key and Peele include their football players names, I think they can’t go wrong.
