Amanda Seyfried: I Was Only Paid 10% of My Male Co-Star for the Same Role

Date:

Amanda Seyfried only got paid 10% of what her male co-star made for exactly the same role.

Gender pay inequality is still a big problem in the United States however, it seems like Hollywood may be the worst offender of all.

Many actresses are now speaking out about what they believe are unfair business practices in Hollywood. Especially how producers tend to pay male actors more then female actresses. Amanda Seyfried has joined the growing number of actors upset with the pay gap in Hollywood.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, the Mean Girls and Les Misérables actress revealed she was paid a paltry sum compared to one of her male co-stars. She said:

“A few years ago, on one of my big-budget films, I found I was being paid 10 percent of what my male co-star was getting. And we were pretty even in status.”

Although Seyfried does not go into detail about the particular actor or movie, it has been speculated she is referring to Les Misérables co-star Eddie Redmayne – although Justin Timberlake in In Time, and Dominic Cooper in Mamma Mia are other possibilities.

Many argue that her agent should have negotiated for a higher pay check. Seyfried agrees that her laid back attitude may have cost her millions of dollars. Telling the Sunday Times:

“I think people think that just because I’m easy-going and game to do things I’ll just take as little as they offer. It’s not about how much you get, it’s about how fair it is.”

Do you think it unfair that Hollywood pays actresses less than actors? Is Amanda Seyfried right? Share with us your thoughts in the comments below!
