An actor is in a coma after a lynching scene that he was performing on stage went incredibly wrong.
Italian actor Raphael Schumacher was rushed to hospital after he strangled on stage in the incident last night.
The alarm was raised when a member of the audience realized the 27-year-old was in serious trouble.
It took place in Pisa as he appeared in the six-scene play Mirages. Now police are launching an investigation.
The theatere was closed down and members of the audience as well as the cast and crew have been interviewed by police officers, The Times reports.
One report suggests that a box Raphael was meant to stand on while the noose was placed around his neck had been moved.
Initial investigations have shown that he was not wearing a body harness as required.
An actor involved in the play said:
“The noose should have been fake and a harness should have caught him if he fell.
“I cannot explain how an incident like this happened.”
