ABC Saves $10 Million By Killing Off ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Character, Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey)

Many people maybe upset that ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ leading cast member is gone. But, the hit TV series will save about $10 million by letting the actor go.

Patrick Dempsey was written out of the TV series when his character Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd was killed off in the April 23 episode.

According to reports, Patrick Dempsey was paid $400,000 an episode or roughly $9.6 million for a 24 episode season of the drama. What is more surprising is that Dempsey had another year on his contract.

Few details have emerged about what led to Dempsey’s exit, however in recent months he had been open about moving on with a focus on TV development via his overall deal with ABC Studios, where he has a racing drama in the works at SundanceTV.
