Universal Pictures studios plans on recreating the legendary feature film, Scarface.
The studio now plans to a new interpreation of the gangster story made infamous by Al Pacino.
According to Deadline, Universal Pictures is ramping up production on the new version of “Scarface”.
A source close to the studio commented that the new version of the movie will not be a remake or a sequel to classic 1983 feature film starring Al Pacino or the 1932 version of the gangster story. But, would be a recreation of the hit classic.
The 1983 “Scarface”, in which Al Pacino plays a Cuban refugee who becomes a drug kingpin, has become an American classic found in hip hop records to Wal-Mart posters.
According to TheWrap, the filmmakers plan to cast an authentic Latino who is bilingual and bicultural as the lead character. It is also reported that producers are open to casting a complete unknown actor in order to keep the movie authentic.
TheWrap also confirmed that Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín (“No”) is in negotiations to direct the new “Scarface” movie for Universal Pictures.
