50 Cent Ends Deal with Starz

Date:

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is breaking free from his long-term contract with Starz, opting not to renew his lucrative deal with Lionsgate.

In a series of social media posts, hip-hop icon and Power executive producer bid farewell to Starz.

According to Deadline, the actor did not renew his contract with Starz. He is said to be considering offers from streamers and studios for his G-Unit Film & Television, which currently has a slate of 25 series in production and development deals. An announcement about Jackson’s new TV home is said to be close.

Jackson is already hard at work on the second season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, which premiered recently on Starz. A second season of Power Book IV: Force is also in production, as well as a Season 2 of BMF and a third season of Raising Kanan–all executive produced by Jackson. The third season of Power Book II: Ghost is set to air on Starz soon.

Last year, Courtney Kemp decided not to renew her deal with Lionsgate and instead landed a deal with Netflix.

Who is 50 Cent?

Curtis James Jackson III, better known as 50 Cent, is an American rapper, actor, businessman, and investor. Born in the South Jamaica neighborhood of the borough of Queens, Jackson began selling drugs at age twelve during the 1980s crack epidemic. He later began pursuing a musical career, and in 2000, he produced Power of the Dollar for Columbia Records, but days before the planned release, he was shot, and the album was never released.

In 2002, after Jackson signed with Eminem’s record label Shady Records, he founded the record label G-Unit Records, signing his G-Unit associates Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo. Jackson had similar commercial and critical success with his second album, The Massacre, which was released in 2005. He released his fifth album, Animal Ambition, in 2014, and as of 2019, he is working on his sixth studio album, Street King Immortal.

Jackson has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and won several awards, including a Grammy Award, thirteen BET Awards, six American Music Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, and two World Music Awards. He has also been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards, Academy Awards, and Emmy Awards. According to Billboard, Jackson was the second wealthiest rapper in the world in 2015, with an estimated net worth of $155 million.
