Jennifer Aniston Criticizes J.D. Vance Over Comments on Childless Women
Jennifer Aniston has publicly condemned Sen. J.D. Vance’s controversial statements from 2021 about women, including high-profile figures like Vice President Kamala Harris, who have not had children. In a post on her Instagram Story, the actress expressed shock that such views came from someone who could potentially become Vice President of the United States.
On her social media, Aniston remarked, “All I can say is…Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too.” Her comments referenced her own struggles with IVF, highlighting the insensitivity of Vance’s remarks.
Aniston shared a screenshot from X (formerly Twitter) showing a 2021 interview Vance did with Tucker Carlson. In the interview, Vance criticized the U.S. leadership, stating it was dominated by “childless cat ladies” and questioned the dedication of leaders without biological children, including Harris, Pete Buttigieg, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Despite these claims, Harris is a stepmother to her husband’s children, a role she values deeply. The controversy comes on the heels of Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, choosing Vance as his running mate for the upcoming 2024 election.
Aniston, a recipient of multiple Emmy Awards, has often addressed the false pregnancy rumors that have followed her throughout her career. In a 2022 interview with Allure and a 2016 Huffington Post essay, she emphasized women’s autonomy over their bodies and life choices, stating, “We are complete with or without a mate, with or without a child. We get to decide for ourselves what is beautiful when it comes to our bodies.
