“Inside Out 2” Shatters Box Office Records to Become the Highest-Grossing Animated Film Ever.

Disney’s latest animation triumph, “Inside Out 2,” has eclipsed “Frozen II” to claim the title of the highest-grossing animated film in history. Six weeks after its release, the film has amassed $601 million in U.S. box offices and an additional $861 million internationally, culminating in a global total of $1.46 billion. This staggering figure surpasses “Frozen II,” which had previously set a high mark with $1.45 billion during its 2019 run.

Notably, “Inside Out 2” also surpassed “Barbie,” which had a global gross of $1.446 billion, making it the 13th-largest film ever in terms of ticket sales. This Pixar sequel set a record as the quickest animated film to reach the billion-dollar milestone, achieving this feat in just 19 days. It also stands as the top-grossing film of 2024 so far, and the only one to enter the billion-dollar club this year.

The film’s success is attributed to several factors: the enduring popularity of its 2015 predecessor, exceptional reviews, and broad demographic appeal. The original “Inside Out” garnered $858 million worldwide, but the sequel surpassed these figures within weeks of its release.

“Inside Out 2” revisits the internal world of Riley, now a teenager, as she navigates new challenges at summer camp. Returning are her core emotions—Joy (voiced by Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), and Anger (Lewis Black)—joined by new characters like Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser), and Nostalgia (June Squibb), adding fresh dynamics to the story.

Produced on a budget of $200 million, “Inside Out 2” not only revitalized Pixar’s box office performance but also captured the hearts of audiences and critics alike, propelled by its innovative storytelling and engaging new characters.
